Arrivals

Books and magazines are one of my weaknesses, others including jackets and french toast. I have a four shelf bookcase in my room which is absolutely bursting with other worlds - books - which I can, at any moment, pick up and lose myself in.

There is always this excitement when a package with your name on it arrives, and my day was absolutely made earlier this week with these four beauties:

I've already read The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and I absolutely recommend it if you still haven't read it. It's the most perfect book, and manages to be "both happy and sad at the same time". The other three were bought rather spontaneously - I've heard great things, and I can't wait to see what they have in store!

Congratulations to everyone for making it over hump day xxx Emily

Refresh

Just a short post, but these are 10 songs which are totally relaxing and great to listen to when you need to de-stress. This playlist helped me just chill before and during my exams. Listening to the lyrics and getting lost in the music (that sounds absolutely cheesy...) allowed me to focus my mind on something other than the six subjects I'd been seeing way too much of in those two or three weeks!

I'll probably post more of my playlists in the future, or maybe make a thing of it - I've seen a few blogs do Music Mondays which could be cool.

Also - I figured out how to add a follow button to my blog, which miiiiight come to some use...

Hope you have a super week, and maybe these songs will refresh you a bit after nobody's favourite day, Monday!

A sort of nostalgia

I love the freedom of travelling. I love the fact that you can wear and do and say whatever you like and not worry about any previous or future encounters with people. I love how you can go somewhere new every day and not be held back by anything. I love the new places and sights and culture and food. I love trying to speak the language and laughing with the locals at the failed attempts, and I love all the little things about a trip that you never ever forget…

Just a quick post because I've been going through photos of holidays with family or friends and I'm realising how much I miss travelling. I'm also feeling so fortunate, because today I found out that I'll most likely be able to go to France in December! I'm super excited - it will be an amazing experience - but I'm also slightly terrified. I definitely need to work on my French...

Here are a few snaps from family holidays that I threw together from the disarray that is my photo files.

Vietnam

Europe a few years ago; I miss it like crazy! Is there anywhere you wish you were travelling at the moment?

à bientôt

Gatsby? What Gatsby?

After studying the book in lit and now seeing the movie, I think I might end up permanently speaking in quotes from The Great Gatsby.
If you haven't read it, you should drop whatever you're doing now and do so. It's my favourite book. Ever. Stop reading this post now if you don't know what happens.

I had super high expectations of the film, but I walked out wanting to watch it again. And again. The music, the costumes, the parties - brilliant. I totally have a girl crush on Carey Mulligan - she seems so sweet off the screen, and The Great Gatsby only made me want to be her even more. She was the perfect Daisy, and in my opinion the rest of the cast were equally as fitting for the roles they played.

Seeing Gatsby's face for the first time in the film - he turns around and raises his glass...I just about died.

Daisy and Gatsby's first scenes together were definitely some of my favourites throughout the film, and the final pool scene was done so well. Even though I knew what was going to happen, I still wished that Gatsby could fulfill his incorruptible dream...but hey. It's absolutely impossible for me to describe everything that I loved - there was a lot - in one blog post. You'll just have to see it for yourself (but read the book first).

Has anyone else read or seen it? What do you think?

French Earl Grey

There doesn't seem to be anything special about the 29th of May - except maybe Oak Apple Day (okay I looked that up) - but for me it's been a pretty great day. My first serious exams finished and after a crazy two weeks I can stop and reflect, but also get super excited about a couple of things.

I really wold like to say thank you to the things that got me through exams - my playlist, French earl grey, and my things to look forward to. This playlist has basically been on repeat for the last two weeks, and I don't think its possible to listen to these songs too much. As the weather's getting colder, tea is seeming more and more welcoming, and French earl grey is the perfect pick-me-up for those lazy, uninspiring afternoons.

I'm getting excited about
Seeing The Great Gatsby tomorrow because it's a brilliant book which even 6 weeks of studying in lit couldn't make me dislike, and that is totally saying something.
My ski trip to New Zealand at the end of this term. I worked so hard over the summer holidays to pay for it, I'm stoked to be going with some pretty awesome people, and I've never been skiing before! It sounds amazing.
France - there is a possibility that I'll be accepted into an exchange program where, during the holidays at the end of the year, I go to France for six weeks. I'll get to go to school and stay with a family and just wow. I cannot comprehend nor describe to you how amazing it would be if that happened.

I'm also feeling so motivated to kick out my terrible exam-eating habits and finally get back into running. And on top of all that, I'm really just looking forward to the little things that make each day or week or moment! I hope you have a wonderful day or night, wherever you are.

Ciao!

Bonjour my wonderful readers!

I'm so glad you've found my blog; I'm also wondering how you found my blog. In any case, I hope you enjoy it!

This will probably be a kind of random collection of photos, thoughts and writing and lots of fun!
